The Proposal
On New Year's eve, I spent the morning with Ryan just helping to clean up his house getting ready for people to come over later in the night. While I was doing dishes, my father called but I asked him to answer it because my hands were soapy. He ended up leaving the room, which I thought was somewhat fishy, but chose not to think too much into it, because he told me that my dad just wanted to know what our plans were for New Years. Then I went to dinner with my parent's while Ryan was at work, and later in the evening Ryan brought me to his house where everyone was coming to celebrate New Years. To tell you the truth, I was not in the greatest of moods that night. (Ok, that's still not the truth, I was a genuine crab@$$ that night!)
We did the whole new year's eve thing, counting down to midnight, yelling "Happy New Year!!!", kissing each other, then hugging all of our friends at the party. Well, then things took an unexpected turn. He took me into his room, so we wouldn't be in front of all his friends. Then he kept telling me how much he loves me. By this point, I had a pretty good idea of what was going to happen... either that or he was going to tell me to suck it up and stop being cranky! haha
Then he told me to close my eyes, and of course I opened them again after a second, so he told me he was serious, I really needed to keep my eyes closed. This time I kept them closed while he got the ring and got down on his knee. I think this is when I basically went into shock, because my memory is kind of foggy (I'm sure the new years celebration didn't help much with this). Anyway, I'm pretty sure he continued to tell me how much he loves me, and said those words "will you marry me" to which I replied "yes", or possibly "of course"?? He had a little bit of confusion over which ring to give me because it was a set (really Ryan?? haha) I got teary eyed, and he stood up and hugged me, and I asked him if he was serious. Yes. Wait, really? Yes. You really mean it? Yes. So you're not joking? No. (don't know WHY it was so hard to believe after six years.... but it didn't seem real) Then my favorite part: since we had a rough ending to 2008 and I was worried about a lot of things going on in 2009, he told me that he really wanted to start the new year off on a better foot. Then eventually after many more hugs, kisses, questions of seriousness, and lots of I love you's, we headed back out to tell our friends! :o) My sister, Jenny said I really looked like I was in shock. She couldn't believe I didn't scream, or cry (she did both for me though). haha It was weird, I was incredibly happy, but felt numb at the same time, bc I didn't belive it had actually happened!
Oh and he also told me about asking my dad for his blessing (Dad actually pulled Ryan over, lights and all!!!) And he said that he planned to ask on our 6 year anniversary, but I really think that New Years was perfect for our situation. :o)
